Wydawnictwo Justus Perthes założone w 1785 w Gotha przez Johanna Georga Justusa Perthesa, specjalizujące się w publikowaniu atlasów podręcznych i kieszonkowych. Po podziale Niemiec w 1950, wydawnictwo zostało znacjonalizowane i od 1953 do 1994 w byłym NRD występowało pod nazwą "Hermann Haack Geografisch-Kartografische Anstalt Gotha", natomiast w RFN z siedzibą w Darmstadt znane jako "Justus Perthes Geografische Varlagsanstalt Darmstadt" . Po zjednoczeniu Niemiec od 1990 do 1992 wydawnictwo w Gotha nosiło nazwę "Hermann Haack Geographisch-Kartografische Verlagsgesellschaft Gotha". W 1992 wydawnictwo w Gotha zostało reprywatyzowane jako "Justus Perthes Verlag Gotha". W 1994 "Justus Perthes Geografische Varlaganstalt Darmstadt" zostało przeniesione do Gotha i od 1995 oba wydawnictwa były znane jako "Klett-Perthes". W 2003 jako "Kleet-Perthes Verlag", a w 2008 wydawnictwo przyjęło nazwę "Ernst Klett Verlag, Zweigniderlassung Gotha, Sekudarstufenverlag".
