University of Kentucky Press powstało w 1943 przy Kentucky State University (USA); od 1949 działa jako samodzielne wydawnictwo; w 1969 zmiana nazwy na University Press of Kentucky i wydawnictwo staje się konsorcjum wydającym publikacje: Bellarmine University, Berea College, Centre College of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University, Filson Historical Society, Georgetown College, Kentucky Historical Society, Kentucky State University, Morehead State University, Murray State University, Northern Kentucky University, Transylvania University, University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Western Kentucky University.
