Niemiecka firma wydawnicza powstała w 1948 jako Kartographisches Institut Kurt Mair. W 1952 zmieniła nazwę na Mairs Geographischer Verlag Kurt Mair GmbH & Co KG. Firma w 2005 połączyła się z DuMont Reiseverlags i powstała nowa kompania wydawnicza pod nazwą MairDumont.
